Fluvial processes 1 – River profiles

This unit links to the wiki entry section 2 A and B at: https://www.lifebridgeschool.co.za/wiki/index.php?title=Geomorphology_-_Rivers
When you complete this unit you will understand the main idea or “big picture” behind the subject of fluvial processes and why it is an important issue.
In module 1 we looked at drainage systems and how rivers move water from the earth’s surface to the sea. Fluvial processes is about the way rivers and streams “behave” and change and the effects this has on the landscape. If we can classify, describe, understand the causes and predict the results of what rivers do at various points it can help us manage and use them more effectively for the good of people and the environment.
Rivers are not unlike people in many ways because they grow, change and mature and in the course of doing so they can be taken of course or captured and when they have lost energy they can be renewed or rejuvenated. In our own lives and spiritual journeys we can be derailed or captured and lose direction and purpose or we can be renewed when we open ourselves to a fresh input from God.
