A. Study slide 7 and answer the following questions:

  1. Which country earned the most from exports?
  2. Which country earned the least from exports?
  3. Which country spent the most on imports?
  4. Which country has the most favourable terms of trade?
  5. Which country has the least favourable terms of trade?
  6. What was the volume of trade for: (a) China (b) South Africa and (c) Mozambique?
  7. Both Jordan and Zambia are landlocked. Do you think this may have influenced their terms of trade? Why?

B. Study slide 10. Japan produces none of these commodities. How has this affected its trade and why is it still a relatively wealthy country?

C. Compare slide 11 and slide 10: what does this suggest about the link between development and trade?

D. Study slide 13: What role does location and distance play in regard to South Africa’s trading partners?
